Do Spanish conversations frustrate you?
You've put a LOT of work into learning Spanish grammar and vocabulary. When you sit down and study the language, it feels great!
...But then when you try to jump into a Spanish conversation, there's a disconnect. And it hits you like a punch in the gut. The words seem to come at 100 miles an hour and you can only make out what half of them are. You try speaking, but all those words you know so well still come out in choppy and disconnected phrases. Your speech just doesn't flow.
You probably feel like your reading and writing skills are way ahead of your speaking and listening abilities. But that feels awful, because what you really want is conversational fluency. You've put so much work into *studying* Spanish, but speaking and listening are still overwhelming. It almost feels like the effort you put into studying just isn’t making any difference in real life.
You want to speak with the native speakers around you but feel like there's a tipping point you haven't reached yet — you just don't have the confidence to begin having REAL conversations with native speakers. You're constantly feeling inadequate for your inability to quickly form thoughts in your head and get the correct words out, especially getting the appropriate verb tense.
Maybe you've even taken some of our courses, but that hasn't always gone perfectly. If you've tried our One-Month Challenge, you've seen incredibly fast results, but it may be impossible to keep that level of dedication up for the long term.
Are you doomed to be stuck at your current level forever, or is there any way to make progress without putting your whole life on hold?
There is a solution.
Imagine having a conversation in Spanish that goes really well. You're familiar with all the words and sentence structures the other person uses, and you can follow along without much difficulty. You walk away with enough confidence to feel like pretty good about yourself — like, soon, you could jump into any Spanish conversation!
Now imagine having a few of those conversations every week— conversations that aren’t too difficult for you, but that give you just enough challenge to keep you focused and moving forward.
The fact is: You NEED to have positive experiences in Spanish. (You've had enough frustrating experiences!) Your next step is to take every opportunity to practice at your own level.
And this is how you'll gain confidence: By improving your Spanish a little bit at a time, without feeling completely lost and overwhelmed.
Frankly, it's not that hard to jump into a Spanish conversation — and then get stressed and discouraged and not want to do it again...
What's much better is to jump into a conversation where you can follow along perfectly and leave feeling more confident than ever in your Spanish speaking and listening abilities — and feel a strong desire to do it again.
